Dream Analysis
Dreams come from the unconscious mind when the conscious mind is asleep and the body is immobolized. The latest understanding of dreams suggests that our mind creates images that form into a 'story' that benefits us in some way.

Latest Theories around Dreaming
Some suggest that dreams are an evolutionary function that enables us to play out scerarios and challenges that can happen in human life so as to equate to better management of life in general whether this be social interactions, our health needs and general personal development. One example of this is looking at the type of dreams people have during divorce and separation where the mind appears to be playing out new ideas and situations without the person they have been so used to being in a partnership with.

It is also suggested that dreams are processing learning of anything new in life and also that dreams are created as the brain grows and develops through life and are a representation of the psychological and emotional changes that are taking place.

One other suggestion is that dreams are a way for humans (and possibly other animals) to 'download' from our genetic based history, learning and evolutionary collective knowledge on how to survive i the world.

It is suggested that dreams can shed light on what is going on for us internally and it is accepted that they are highly linked to our emotions.
What do we know?
Dream content is similar across cultures and across the ages and usually consist of no more than around 5 characters. We are almost always the central character in our dreams and other aspects of our dreams are predictable such as when an abstract factor in the dream changes, it will change to something within the same group. For example, if a bike changes it will change to another form of transport rather than turn into a cow or if a town changes, it will alter to another known venue rather than another planet.

On the whole, from then on it is still surrounded by mystery which is has been the case for as long as humans have been developed enough to wonder about them.

De-Bunking Dream Interpretation Books
Dream work with a well read and experienced therapist would NOT involve that what is in popular dream books where dreaming of a cat means femininity or misfortune or dreaming of gold means good luck weath or happiness. This is because the metaphorical creation of a dream, is individual to a person and gold for instance might not mean the same thing from one person to the next.

Dream work in Therapy
Ever since Freud explored dreams, it has been accepted by most that dreams can be useful in therapy from providing the therapist with clues as to what needs working on in therapy to assuring the person that their unconscious mind is working on difficulties. Therapists who include dream work in their practice will draw upon Jungian Theory which is one of the most respected forms of therapeutic intervention there is.
There are a few ways to decode the dreams based on psychological technique based on the Jungian model and it is this that we seek to explore in therapy around dreams.
